ting ting ting ting ting ting ting tingggg
That inevitable crescendo of fork-against-crystal that fills the reception venue until the newly minted couple ends it with a kiss.
Personally, I don’t remember doing this at my wedding. It is possible we kissed post-fork-tapping, but if it happened it wasn’t particularly memorable. (Sorry honey! We got to kiss a bunch on our wedding day – its hard to say if it was the result of fork-tapping or just happiness!)
But I know some couples are not so keen on PDA, or might be uncomfortable smooching in front of family. Or, after a dozen fork-tapping-kisses from enthusiastic guests, it just gets old. Traditions, however sweet, can go stale.
Mon Amye to the rescue!
I attended a wedding last weekend, where I witnessed a clever solution to this common wedding tradition. After a few “clink clink kisses” the DJ announced that the next time, the bride’s parents would “do the honors” instead of the new couple. Spread the love!
Another couple at our table had enacted this spin-on-tradition at their wedding – with a slight variation. They provided a list of couples names to the DJ. Every time the clinking began, the DJ announced a new couple to fulfill the request. (I think of this as “kiss cam” style.) They reported that the clinks quickly quieted and the reception continued without interruption.
So, if this tradition isn’t your style, mix it up with one of these tricks and kiss on your own terms!
P.S. Does anyone know where did this fork-tapping kiss tradition originated?
