In the spirit of thankfulness this month, I thought I’d use Wedding Wednesday today to talk about bridesmaid gifts that I used to say “Thank you!” to my friends. I sure hope every bride feels as lucky as I did to have simply the best bridesmaids for her wedding. These girls are truly special women, and I’m so fortunate to call them friends. They gladly talked me through those stressful decisions and crazy ideas, gave me the most lovely bridal shower and a fantastic bachelorette weekend, and even chose their own gorgeous bridesmaid dresses without an ounce of bickering (at least to my knowledge!). Incredible in every way, and deserving of so many thanks. I wanted their gifts, which were shared at the Rehearsal Luncheon, to be both personal and perennial. Something I could see them using not just for the wedding day, but also as a memory of that special closeness we shared during those months of wedding planning. To start, Something to Wear on the wedding day. Since the dresses had one shoulder, I nixed necklaces in favor of these glamorous vintage-inspired earrings.
To display the earrings in the gift package, I made each bridesmaid a simple DIY earring holder out of a picture frame. I had previously made one for myself and one of the girls had admired it, so I thought it was the perfect little Something Handmade. But these earrings are rather fancy, not exactly an everyday-use item. Since I’d be wearing the classic bridal pearl necklace on my wedding day, I thought a Freshwater Pearl Classic Solitaire Pendant would be a great reminder of the day.
The pearl as a gemstone is said to symbolize the purity, generosity, integrity and loyalty of its wearer – which pretty much represents these sweet friends of mine perfectly. I have seen them wearing the necklace many times since our wedding, so I think it was a hit! You really can’t go wrong with a classic pearl as Something to Treasure. Of course I needed a vessel to contain the gift, and so my favorite Lands End Medium Long-Handle Tote was the perfectly personalized answer, with each bridesmaid’s initials monogrammed. For me, these are the most versatile, go-to size. And the long handles are a must! Perfect for Something to Use, since each girl used it to keep track of her belongings in the bridal suite the next day. The truth is, though, the best part of each gift – for me as the giver, and I think for each bridesmaid as the recipient – was the personal note I included as Something from the Heart. I shared with each friend how grateful I was for our friendship, the things I treasured about her, and what it meant to me that she would be standing beside me on my wedding day. These were, yes, emotional for me to write leading up to my wedding. But based on their reactions, it was definitely worth it to dig deep and take the time to write down my true feelings. So there you have it. Its not rocket science, but it does take a little bit of planning and consideration to make a special thank-you for a special friend. Tell me, what did you give for Bridesmaid Gifts? Have you been the recipient of the best bridesmaid gift ever? Do share!
