Last week we tackled Spring Cleaning: Shoe Edition, wherein I promised to share one of my all-time-favorite DIYs that’s been serving me (and my flats) well for 10+ years. Ten years! Seriously.
Introducing the DIY Shoe Storage wine box hack!
I first saw this project in Real Simple magazine (j’adore!) and I think I made the versions pictured below when I was still in high school:
Those particular DIY shoe storage boxes came with me to the college dorms, then made it through two years of grad school, and a couple apartment moves since then. That’s an impressive run for an up-cycled wine box!
While they were still holding up pretty well, as seen above, I finally decided to replace my DIY wine box shoe storage, and videoed the simple process for you.
To make your own, you will need:
– wine box
– kraft or wrapping paper
– packing tape
A wine box is easily obtained from liquor store, usually free. Look for one with really sturdy dividers. I find that the size of wine boxes, rather than liquor, are perfect for my flat shoes.
1. Carefully remove top flaps from the box so that it remains open.
2. Wrap the box like a gift. Be sure to use sturdy/heavy paper for long lasting results and reinforce seams and edges with packing tape.
3. Slide the dividers back in, and fill with shoes!
Voila! A simple solution for shoe storage that will last for years to come. Its so easy to pop my flats into their spots at the end of the day, keeping my closet floor organized and shoes accessible.
So what do you think – is this a wine-box-hack you’ll tackle soon?
