These articles keep popping into my newsfeed and I can’t help but click because the concept is awesome. Simplicity. Be more creative with your closet. Streamline your mornings. (I annoy myself with how miserable I am in the mornings. Anything to simplify the steps between me and coffee is a good thing.)
I could probably make a capsule wardrobe. It’s sort of like packing clothing for a vacation, but then never leaving the house – right?
Except here’s how I think it would go for me, standing in front of my closet, wishing I was still asleep. I would *know* that other cute top is just over there. And it looks so much better under this jacket. And, really, there’s no reason I can’t grab it. And suddenly…the capsule goes kaput.
Instead of going all-in for the capsule wardrobe right away, I’m taking baby steps toward a streamlined closet. And I invite you to join me in my Not-Quite-A-Capsule Wardrobe Challenge: to dress from my closet – no shopping! – all summer.
Easier said than done while the Siren Songs of Summer Sales play on, but so far I’m holding strong. Because I make the rules, I decided that shoes are ok (but I haven’t bought any yet!). Other than the potential of shoes, I’m on a Summer Shopping Freeze.
I fully admit to buying a few things in early June that will get me through the summer. To do a full season freeze, I won’t be shopping again until September 3rd. Then we’ll re-evaluate.
Will you join me for July and August? (I’m letting you off easy, with just two months sans shopping [wink!]).
The truth is, I’ve been amazed at how many times I’ve been tempted to shop. The store emails just make it so easy to click! Of, of course, there are bloggers with easy links to pretty items. It is getting harder to avoid temptation so I’m sharing my #summershoppingfreeze here as an accountability measure, and inviting you to freeze with me this summer.
The reality is, I have enough clothes. Most of us do. Just because I like to mix it up doesn’t mean I should be filling my closet beyond capacity. Just because Ann Taylor is having a sale doesn’t mean I have to take that bait.
I’m a few weeks in now, and invite you to join me for a July and August shopping freeze. Let me know if you’re “in” in the comments below. And tag #summershoppingfreeze on social (I’m mostly on Instagram) when you “freeze” by avoiding a tempting sale, or celebrate a win by discovering a new outfit combo already hidden in your closet.
The first Not-Quite-A-Capsule Wardrobe challenge is officially underway!
